This is a story of what not to do. I purchased my 1966 Hemi Belvedere 1 in 1967 after looking for a 66 Nova for months . A friend of mine called me late one night to tell me their was a Hemi Belvedere at a dealer in a town 20 miles from us. So needless to say we made a trip the next day to the dealer to see are first Hemi. It was in a back room covered with a tarp. AS the salesman was taking the tarp off he was telling us that people who looked at it could not get insurance (mostly kids) or didn’t like the color – midnight blue – WHAT! -It could have been pink, who cares. So after taking a ride and finding out my 56 chevy 265 was not the baddest hot rod around, I called a insurance co. that my parents had been with for years and also good friends. I told him the car was the cheaper belvedere with a v8 engine and automatic and that I was working steady and had a baby on th way. No problem it was ours. We drove it on the street for a year and a half then went racing. Now the bad part – A 480-Hemi C/dragster became available after I was having my own way at local tracks for 4 years. So I sold the belvedere and bought the dragster (wanted to go faster) The rail about broke me so I had to sell it. 25 years later I see a 66 belvedere sell for 155.000 . End of story.
