Malibu Fires Claim Bob Mazzolini Maverick Nose Car

Among the people who have lost everything in the deadly California fires was a noted car enthusiast whose collection of 30 classics was destroyed by the flames. Malibu residents Gary Cerveny and his wife, Diane, were described in a Hot Rod article as “the best kind of car collectors.”

Thankfully Gary and Diane are safe, yet it is always a tragedy to see history destroyed. If you have never heard of Gary Cerveny, a private collector in Southern California who amassed a fascinating stable over the years, you may have heard of his thirty-odd cars, all of which reportedly burned in the Woolsey Fire over the weekend. This includes a 1-of-26 1953 Hudson Italia, a 1965 Pontiac GTO gasser, The Norman Timbs Special, a one-off, homebuilt streamliner dreamed up by one of the minds behind the famous Tucker 48, and much much more.

Among the destroyed cars, was the Bob Mazzolini Racing Original Maverick Aluminum Nose Car. This was Bill Golden’s 1963 Dodge Maverick Aluminum Front end 426 Max-Wedge car. Bob Mazzolini didn’t just build the car, he ran as an A/SA for about 10 years and it was very competitive.

This car has a close and personal history with us and we are very sad to see it gone. As we are extremely glad that Gary and Diane are alright, we pray for those who lost their lives, loved ones and homes.
